The heat and humidity are increasing. During this time of year, we tend to reach for cold foods, but doing so too much can make us sick. To avoid cooling our bodies too much even in the summer, why not start your day off healthy by eating some warm vegetables on a lazy holiday morning? This time, we will be introducing steamed dishes using a stew pan, which takes advantage of the characteristic of ironware that "once heated, it doesn't cool down easily," and a breakfast that can be prepared in a short time with few burners by using a yakiniku plate as a heat source.
◎Potatoes and beans steamed in butter Nesting eggs
<Ingredients>
-
- 2 new potatoes
- 2 large handfuls of green beans (a mix of beans will improve the flavor and texture)
- • Butter (about 15g)
- A pinch of salt
- 2 eggs
<How to make>
- 1. Peel the potatoes (you can choose not to peel them if you prefer) and cut them into 2cm cubes, and cut the green beans into pieces about 3-4cm long.
- ②Heat a pan and melt the butter.
- 3. First, fry the potatoes, and when the surface becomes slightly translucent, add the green beans, sprinkle with a pinch of salt, mix roughly, reduce the heat to low and cover.
- 4. Steam and simmer while checking the inside from time to time. When the vegetables are soft, taste them and add salt if necessary. Make holes for the eggs, place the eggs in, cover and heat for about 1 minute.
- ⑤ Turn off the heat, leave the lid on and cook for about 10 minutes using residual heat, then serve the pot. After about this time, it will be cooked like a soft-boiled egg. Sprinkle with black pepper to taste.

Since ironware can cook food well even with residual heat, it's great because it reduces the amount of time you spend standing in front of the fire during hot weather.
◎ Grill or heat on the yakiniku plate
The yakiniku plate is flat and has a large surface area, so you can heat milk in a very small pot while sizzling bread and sausages, or you can enjoy brewing coffee in an espresso maker. It's easy to use; heat the plate over high heat with a small pot of milk or other liquid on it, and when it feels hot when you hold your hand over it, reduce the heat to low to medium-low and start grilling the bread and sausages. Once everything is cooked to your desired doneness, you're done. One of the great attractions of this plate is that it creates delicious browning.
★Bonus recipe: Marinated tomatoes, plums, and cucumbers
Summer is the season when various agricultural products are in full bloom. Since we are here, we want to enjoy fresh vegetables and fruits raw. Marinating is an easy and healthy cooking method that makes the most of the appeal of the raw ingredients while increasing the appetite with its acidity and providing a moderate amount of lipids.
<Ingredients>
-
- • 4-5 medium-sized tomatoes
- 4-5 plums (moderately ripe and firm )
- 1 cucumber
- • 1 tablespoon white balsamic vinegar
- • About 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- • 2 pinches of salt
<How to make>
- 1. Cut the tomatoes into 4 wedges lengthwise. Peel the cucumber and cut it horizontally into 4-5cm lengths, then slice it lengthwise into 5mm pieces. Cut the plums all around with a knife like you would an avocado to remove the seeds, then cut them into 4 lengthwise like you did the tomatoes. Put all the cut ingredients into a bowl.
- 2. Mix roughly with white balsamic vinegar and olive oil, and season with salt. Taste the juice that comes out and adjust the seasoning accordingly.
